Compass

An instrument containing a magnetized pointer invented as a mechanism in divination as early as the Chinese Han Dynasty, before being adopted for navigational use during the 11th century. A compass shows the cardinal direction of magnetic north and bearings from it. Through arcane ritualistic enchantment, compasses can be used as devices for scrying.
